How do you price AliExpress eBay for profit?
To price an AliExpress product for eBay profit, start from landed supplier cost (item + the shipping you will actually pay), add buffers for FX and small surprises, then layer eBay seller fees for your site, category, Store/Shop status and performance tier—including any per-order, regulatory, international and optional Promoted Listings lines—before you set a sell price that still clears your profit floor. Flat “2× AliExpress” rules often fail once final value is calculated on the total amount of the sale (as eBay Help defines it, commonly including postage). Always re-check official Help and your Seller Hub invoice; software estimates are guidance, not a quote.
This guide is a pricing workflow for AliExpress → eBay dropshippers. It does not invent fee percentages. For UK vs US structure, dated Help readings and labelled worksheets, use our companion post: eBay dropshipping fees explained (UK and US). For the listing steps around the price, see how to list AliExpress products on eBay.
Official sources (bookmark these first)
Seller fees (site-specific)
- United States: eBay.com Selling fees · Store selling fees
- United Kingdom (business): Fees for business sellers · selling-fees hub / private path: Selling fees
Exact category percentages, per-order thresholds, Store/Shop allotments and extras change. Open the live Help table for your category and account type before every pricing batch. Our fees post summarises how to read those pages; it is not a substitute for them.
Promoted Listings / ads
Promoted Listings ad rates are campaign-type and account dependent—not a single forum percentage. Follow eBay’s in-Help navigation for Promoted Listings (Standard / General / Priority naming can differ by site and year). Treat any ad % you set in Seller Hub as a real cost of acquisition in the worksheet below. Do not copy a stranger’s “I always run 8%” as policy.
Policy context
- Drop shipping — fulfilment and honesty still apply
- IP removals wipe more margin than fees: eBay VeRO for dropshippers
The profit equation (components, not magic %)
Think in lines, not vibes:
- Supplier item cost (the SKU / variant you will actually order)
- Supplier postage you pay (and any amount you collect from the buyer)
- FX / payment / remittance buffers where relevant
- eBay seller fees final value on total sale as Help defines it, per-order fee, insertion/listing when over allotment, Store/Shop effects, UK regulatory operating fee where applicable, international fee when Help says it applies, VAT on eBay’s fees (UK business Help: fees often shown exclusive of VAT—confirm live; this is not tax advice)
- Optional Promoted Listings / ads at the rate you actually run
- Returns / refund risk buffer (your rule of thumb—not an eBay fee)
- Profit floor you refuse to breach
Break-even (conceptual): the sell total (item + postage + applicable taxes as Help would treat the “total amount of the sale) at which collected − supplier landed − eBay fees − ads buffers = 0. Anything below your floor after plugging your Help rates is a skip—or a price raise—before List.
There is no special eBay “dropshipping fee.” You pay the same seller stack as other sellers on that site. Detail: fees guide.
Step-by-step pricing workflow
1 Confirm marketplace and account framing
- Site: ebay.com vs ebay.co.uk (or DE/AU—use that site’s Help, not a US blog)
- Account type: US individual vs Store; UK private vs business (different UK articles)
- Shop / Store level if subscribed—allotments and sometimes fee paths differ
Wrong Help page = wrong worksheet.
2 — Capture true AliExpress landed cost
From the AliExpress page (correct colour × size child):
- Item price for the variant you will buy
- Shipping method and cost to the destination you will state on eBay
- Whether free-shipping offers still leave you paying something after coupons expire
- Approximate days in transit you can honestly promise as handling + delivery story
Do not price from a flash coupon” you cannot repeat. Incomplete variation grids cause wrong-SKU ordersmap sellable children first with the variations / MSKU guide. Sibling sources: Amazon to eBay workflow · Walmart to eBay workflow.
3 Look up eBay fees on official Help (do not invent %)
Open the Help URL for your site. Find:
- Your category final value fee row
- Per-order fee thresholds
- Any regulatory operating fee (UK business Help describes this as an extra % of total sale—confirm the live figure)
- International fee if buyer/delivery is cross-border per Help rules
- Whether you are still inside free insertion / listing allotment
Copy those figures into your sheet for this SKU. Prefer our fees explainer as a map of components—then overwrite with live Help numbers for the batch you are pricing today.
4 — Decide Promoted Listings (optional but common)
Ask:
- Will this listing run ads from day one?
- At what ad rate in Seller Hub?
- On what campaign type (follow Help—names and billing rules differ)?
Add ad cost ≈ ad rate × total amount of the sale (as your campaign bills it—confirm Help wording) as its own worksheet line. Underpriced + aggressive ads is a fast way to sell at a loss.
5 Set the sell total and solve for profit
Work forwards (cost → price) or backwards (target profit → required sell total). Either way:
Profit Total collected (as Help defines the sale)
AliExpress landed
− eBay fees (from YOUR Help rows)
− Promoted Listings (if any)
− Buffers
If profit < floor raise item price and/or postage collected, cut ads, change supplier shipping, or skip. Do not publish hoping volume fixes a broken unit economics.
6 — Review the eBay draft before List
Automation can fill price fields; it cannot forgive a wrong Help row. Prefer an editable draft (manual or non-API / session-based Chrome fill) and check:
- Item + postage vs worksheet
- Category still matches the fee row you used
- Variation child prices if colour/size differ in cost
- Brand / VeRO language (VeRO guide)

Hypothetical worksheets (labelled not quotes for your account)
Every number below is illustrative. Fee percentages are intentionally left as “look up on Help or referenced only where our fees post already tied them to dated Help readings—re-open live Help before you price.
Hypothetical A US-style sketch (eBay.com)
Hypothetical example (labelled for clarity). Assumptions for illustration only:
- Site: eBay.com
- AliExpress landed (item + ship you pay): $18.00
- Planned total amount of the sale (item + postage + applicable taxes as Help would treat it): $39.99
- Category final value %: use your Help row (do not invent one here)
- Per-order fee: use Help threshold for this order total
- Insertion: assume inside free allotment → $0 for this sketch
- Promoted Listings: none in this sketch
- International fee: none in this sketch
| Line | Hypothetical amount |
|---|---|
| Total amount of the sale | $39.99 |
| Final value fee | Help % × $39.99 |
| Per-order fee | Help fixed amount |
| AliExpress landed | $18.00 |
| Ads | $0.00 |
| Margin before buffers | $39.99 − fees − $18.00 |
Plug the live Help % and per-order amount from eBay.com Selling fees. For a fully numeric labelled walkthrough that cites dated Help snapshots, see the US worksheet in fees UK/US.
Hypothetical B — UK business sketch (eBay.co.uk)
Hypothetical example (labelled for clarity). Assumptions for illustration only:
- Site: eBay.co.uk, business seller
- AliExpress landed: 14.50
- Planned total amount of the sale: 32.00
- Category final value %: your Help category row
- Per-order fee: Help £ threshold for this order
- Regulatory operating fee: Help % of total sale (business Help)
- VAT on eBay’s fees: not modelled—Help often shows fees exclusive of VAT; your invoice may add VAT. Not tax advice.
- Promoted Listings: seller chooses X% in Seller Hub add X% sale as its own line
| Line | Hypothetical amount |
|---|---|
| Total amount of the sale | 32.00 |
| Final value fee | Help % × £32.00 |
| Per-order fee | Help fixed amount |
| Regulatory operating fee | Help % × £32.00 |
| AliExpress landed | £14.50 |
| Promoted Listings | chosen % × £32.00 |
| Margin before VAT-on-fees / returns buffer | £32.00 fee lines − £14.50 − ads |

Hypothetical C — Break-even with ads
Hypothetical example. Same planned sale total $40.00, AliExpress landed $20.00, and you decide to run Promoted Listings at a chosen rate from Seller Hub (call it *R%*your number, not ours).
Break-even thinking:
- Compute eBay seller fees on $40.00 from Help (FVF + per-order + extras).
- Compute ads ≈ R% $40.00 (confirm billing basis in Help).
- Profit $40.00 − $20.00 fees − ads − buffers.
- If profit < floor, either raise the $40.00 sell total, lower R%, or skip.
Never treat “ads will pay for themselves” as a line item with no math.
Promoted Listings without folklore
- Optional — many sellers run them; many listings sell without them.
- Rate is yours to set (within product rules)budget it like CPC, not like a tip.
- Billing rules (when you pay, on what base, Standard vs other products) live in eBay Help / Seller Hub, not in Discord screenshots.
- Fee-aware pricing means the sell price already assumes the ad rate you will actually usenot the rate you hope to turn off later.
If you cannot clear your floor with the ad rate you intend to run, do not list and “figure ads out later.”
Common pricing mistakes that wipe AliExpress margins
- Using a single forum “eBay takes ~X%” instead of the category Help row
- Forgetting final value often applies to postage when Help defines total sale to include it
- Ignoring per-order fees on cheap items
- Ignoring UK regulatory operating fee and VAT on fees
- Cross-border international fee surprises
- Pricing from a temporary AliExpress coupon
- Running Promoted Listings on a listing that was already thin at break-even
- Listing branded goods to make the fee backVeRO removals cost more (VeRO)
- Publishing ten near-duplicate singles instead of one clean multi-variation listing (insertion allotment and buyer UX both suffer)

FAQ
Is there a free eBay dropshipping profit calculator that uses exact fees?

Do I include postage in the fee base?
On US and UK schedules described in Help, final value is generally calculated on the total amount of the sale, which Help typically defines to include postage and applicable taxes—confirm exact wording and any category exceptions on the live page.
Should I always use Promoted Listings?
No. Model the rate you would actually run. If the unit fails with ads on, either raise price, lower the rate, or skip.

Does DS Lister Pro offer a free trial?
No. DS Lister Pro uses a paid trial modelnot a free trial. Confirm live terms on select plan.
